LOOBY ORIGINS
When my son was 5 we started an art project together. Placing my To Do book in front of him he would quickly doodle abstract shapes, whirling lines, outlines of strange creatures and super heroes (complete with speech bubbles and sound effects) over pages of dull errand lists.
When he was done I would work into his raw expressive lines, making characters, adding details, shading, backgrounds, and if he’d drawn a more fully formed character I’d create scenes with groups of cartoon friends interacting with each other.
Below, on the left, is my son’s original Looby character with an unlit cigarette in his mouth, and on the right is my duplicate version with the cigarette lit and his teeth turning yellow.
